The machine can be configured to read the address (by OCR) or a pre-printed barcode (by BCR) on incoming mail and sort to a sort plan. The sort plans can be customised by customers to reflect the exact sorting strategy already used to handle incoming mail.

Mail can be sorted to a level of name and department. The plans can be altered to match changes in staffing even including temporary changes caused by holidays and sickness.

The system can also have a letter opener included to open all mail during the sort process as an optional extra.

The INSort database also contains extensive “alias” files that can detect from the “true name” versus "nick name" . For example, if “Robert” comes in as “Bob” 25% of the time, the alias file can be updated to associate both names and the sorter will associate Bob to Robert. There is no need to call in outside assistance to reconfigure your data as your needs change.
