Originally a contract manufacturer, Hampshire Cosmetics had transformed to become a full service provider of toiletries and cosmetics. Products such as creams, deodorants, perfumes and waxes can be made to a customer formulation or the company’s in-house laboratory can develop new products to the client’s specification.

Hampshire Cosmetics also proactively suggests new ranges to its customers, handling everything from concept and formulation, to packaging design, manufacturing and delivery of the finished goods.

Developing this service helped the company grow steadily and attract high street retailers and brand owners looking for sustainable partnerships. It also made production line flexibility and reliability vital, requiring speedy, efficient wrapping machines that were easy to move between production lines as necessary.

“Unfortunately, our old machines were inefficient to set up and caused regular stoppages to pick up plastic bottles that had fallen over. Our operators often had to resort to grouping products by hand to feed into the machine - it was a real hassle,” says Ian.Hampshire Cosmetics therefore turned to KernPack for an SFE-AU 600 AU PLC Servo sleeve wrapping system to pack anything from 15ml to 1000ml bottles - and the difference was immediate.

Explains Ian: “We saw benefits straight away. The SFE-AU used a servo motor to smoothly slide pots into the machine to be wrapped, handling the products so carefully we were even able to dispense with some of the excess packaging.”

Productivity is another key focus for the company, and the KernPack solution has so far handled everything thrown at it. Prior to the investment in KernPack, the wrappers were often the bottleneck on filling lines, but this has changed with the SFE-AU easily handling 60-70 units a minute. The operators are so pleased with the system that the company has gone on to purchase more, just placing an order for their fourth.
